The Heart of Entrepreneurship

How can entrepreneurs integrate sustainability into product design without breaking the bank or sacrificing quality?

Partnering with design teams who understand sustainability from a systemic perspective is crucial. Sustainable design might initially add to the costs, but aligning with circular economy principles—like reducing waste—can benefit both the planet and your business over time. True sustainability goes beyond simply choosing eco-friendly materials; it means reducing energy use, optimizing logistics, and creating designs that minimize waste. For entrepreneurs in the TREP Club, tapping into resources on sustainable practices can ensure their products not only align with ethical values but also save costs over the long term by streamlining production.

What advice would you give entrepreneurs looking to innovate in crowded industries?

Authenticity is non-negotiable. Ask yourself, “What makes me or my team the right one to bring this product or service to life?” Your unique experiences and perspective are invaluable assets that cannot be replicated. In a crowded industry, the depth of your authenticity can differentiate your business, allowing you to establish a brand that resonates deeply with your target audience. At TREP Club, we encourage members to develop unique stories and to leverage their distinct experiences to stand out.

With tech evolving fast, how will the role of design change in the next decade? What trends should entrepreneurs be watching?

The role of design will become more dynamic and demand an understanding of both storytelling and environmental impact. While AI can speed up design processes, it lacks the originality and creative depth human designers bring. TREP Club is well-positioned to help members learn how to balance AI-driven efficiency with authentic storytelling. This includes designing product experiences that resonate emotionally and socially with customers.

As the world demands greener products, entrepreneurs will also need to make sustainability an integral part of their designs. This aligns with the TREP Club’s commitment to providing members with insights into sustainable practices and strategies that prepare them for compliance with future regulations like carbon reporting and digital product passports. Additionally, as geopolitical shifts impact global trade, entrepreneurs will have to adapt designs and supply chains to be more locally rooted and resilient.

If you could go back and give your startup self one piece of advice using only a fortune cookie message, what would it say and why?

“Don’t forget to eat.”

This simple reminder would have encouraged me to prioritize self-care. Starting a business can consume every ounce of your energy, but it’s essential to maintain your health and balance. As we share in TREP Club, nurturing your own well-being ensures the sustainability of your vision and drive, equipping you to lead, grow, and succeed long-term.
